* Daniel Jefferson Gardner Sr. was born in Georgia, moved to Mississippi, and then moved to Lincoln Parish Louisiana in the early 1870s. For many years, he was the largest land owner in the parish, operating a large cattle business. He was one of the first in the region to own a steam cotton gin. He was a staunch Democrat and served in the Civil War.
